In November of 2021 the Town of Buena Vista issued a new short term rental policy. Previously there were no restrictions on short term rentals; now there are many. The policy is complex, but the flow chart below does a pretty good job of explaining it. This new policy changes the landscape for real estate investors and buyers in general. I called Town last week and there was currently one STR permit available for out of county residents, and many available for in county residents. If you are thinking about investing in BV and buying a vacation rental property now is the time to take action. The waiting list for STR licenses will be much longer next year and the year after. This is a new policy that the Town Council will revisit and review each year, but I don’t expect these rules to go away anytime soon.
