The COVID-19 (aka Coronavirus) has paralyzed the world. Colorado has been under a official Stay-at-home order for 10 days and we have several more ahead of us; April 30th at the earliest. Thankfully we have not yet experienced a serious outbreak in Buena Vista. I have friends in New York City and Seattle, family in San Francisco, and I nervously read the news and hear first hand reports about life in quarantine.
Life in BV has been pretty chill. The grocery stores ran out of everything the first few days due to panic buying. City Market and the Lettucehead responded with increased inventory and all hands on deck. The Lettucehead was one of the first stores in town to limit the number of people allowed in the store at one time, which City Market followed a few weeks later. Everyone I’ve encountered has been calm and courteous. There has been an awesome response from the community; people are connecting and helping those in need.
One of the things that has kept me sane and in good spirits during this Stay-at-home order is our ability to easily access a wealth of hiking and biking trails. Over 80% of Chaffee County is public lands. The family and I have been getting out a little everyday to explore a trail and get exercise. I live right in town and I’ve always enjoyed being able to bike anywhere in town on a cruiser bike or ride my mountain bike from my house and cross the river to the Midland, but never more than right now.
Real estate has been designated as an essential service, and if you are trying to sell your property you’d better believe it’s essential to continue to market and sell your property. We are taking additional precautions: only showing homes to pre-approved buyers, making sure home owners and buyers are not sick or been traveling to high risk areas, minimizing touching during showings, carrying and using hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes, and doing virtual tours whenever possible. It’s spring and more homes in BV are hitting the market every week. If you are thinking about listing your home for sale give me a call for a free home valuation report. If you are thinking about buying property this year give me a call; it’s never to early to start your property search.
My new Realtor joke when showing houses…”Can you imagine yourself being quarantined in this house?”
Governor Polis is asking everyone in Colorado to stay in your zip code. Traveling to a different area, even for a day trip to hike outside, could result in the spread of this virus.
